About the Chapter

Our History

The Indianapolis AGA Chapter is excited to celebrate more than 50 years of providing professional and educational development and networking to our members! We focus on our members and their needs, as demonstrated by our continued emphasis on accountability, certification, education and research, and service. Our dedication to excellence has led to our 8th consecutive achievement of “Platinum” status! In order to emphasize the importance of our members’ current and future success, the Chapter provides various benefits of interest to our member population. Monthly luncheons feature professional speakers from throughout the government, and Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) study groups and incentives are provided to assist candidates in passing CGFM exams. Additionally, member-oriented social and networking activities are offered throughout the year. Our networking activities allow non-members to meet us and learn about the organization. Some of these events include speed networking, resume interviews, community service events, and after-work social events. We also participate in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) to provide members a chance to get involved and brush up on current tax knowledge. The continual development of our members is also accomplished through a diverse mix of educational and developmental opportunities, which offer at least 20 CPEs each year. These opportunities are offered through our hosted Audio Conferences (or Webinars) to discuss current and relevant topics as well as semi-annual Professional Development Conferences (PDCs), which are jointly hosted with American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC) and offer an exciting day of learning offsite. We recognize the dedication and hard work of our Chapter members and are committed to staying focused on the continuous development of our Chapter and community for the advancement of accountability in government. Chapter Goals Keeping AGA’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values in focus, our Chapter President’s, Mr. John Campbell’s, goals for this year are to: Create a well-rounded program that fosters career development for all aspects of the members. This includes increased opportunities for CPEs, interaction with Senior Executive Service (SES) members and the expectation of accountability and leadership among program chairs/members with her guidance. Increase new membership by 12% over 2016-2017 levels by performing new outreach events. Recognize members with AGA awards for their commitment to the organization, the professional development of others and earned certifications. Increase engagement of chapter members that reside outside of the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS). Our program chairs have already started executing new ideas to rejuvenate the Chapter. They include the addition of professional networking forums, personal outreach to new employees on the benefits of our Chapter’s membership and partnering with other organizationally sanctioned activities. Improvement Opportunities The Indianapolis Chapter plans to focus on two areas for potential improvement for the upcoming program year: 1) program and committee participation by new members and 2) publications/research opportunities. We have very hard working program chairs and co-chairs that could use the assistance and fresh perspective of new AGA members. We have found that most of the duties are accomplished by a small group of dedicated members and it is the goal of this program year to grab the attention of members that may not have actively participated in the past by answering the “what do we offer” question above. Our President is a strong advocate of communication and professional development and is challenging members to consider authoring a publication and/or research paper that would not only provide them with a great chance to learn, but also give our Chapter an opportunity to be highlighted at the National level.
